- Conducting Research at
- La Cherenga Field Station
Any scholar
or student can use our facilities to conduct formal field
research. Our three separate Sites provide
three different environmental conditions for different
research needs. The Golfito forest is about 22,000
hectares, including the Esquinas National Park, and the
Golfito Wildlife Refuge.
Our private sites provide exclusive and protected access to primary and secondary forest in the area.
The 3 Field Sites:
The Skutch-Allen Site was donated by Instituto Estudios Tropicales, which in turn was donated by Clyde Stevens and Germán Fábrega. This site is all primary forest. The Km32 Site has hills and flat terrain including marshland and three creeks. It is mostly primary forest, bordered by primary and some secondary forest. The Km23 Site has hills and is home to the laboratory.
